Private Dining

New Zealand's finest private dining room.

One long table, two to twenty guests, and a menu that runs from a trust-the-chef shared banquet to a plated, wine-matched dinner. Fireside catch-ups, corporate dinners, milestone birthdays, and, of course, our winemaker dinners.

Take the whole venue and it becomes something else again: up to 75 for a standing canapé event, an oyster station at the bar, Champagne from the great houses and the growers we love.

The Restaurant

Lunch, dinner, and the long afternoon in between.

Our kitchen's menu runs from oysters and snacks at the bar through to a full à la carte in the dining room. European in its instincts, New Zealand in its produce, and built, always, with the wine match in mind.

Weekdays it is the working lunch that runs late. Sundays it is the Proper Sunday Roast, one long table, twenty seats. Every night it is a room that feels like the best table in Auckland happens to be yours.

The Wine List

Four hundred bottles. Forty open right now.

400+Wines on the list
40+By the glass, always

The very best from here and the very best from there. Champagne from the great houses and the small growers, Burgundy and Bordeaux with age on them, and the New Zealand producers we have known for decades.

The list changes monthly. The bottles worth trying are open by the glass, so you never have to commit to find out.

The Wine Bar

Drop in. Stay a while.

No booking needed. The bar is the classics, done properly: a glass of something serious, a martini made the right way, and a snack menu built on salt, acid, fat and a little sugar so that whatever you order, there is a wine to go with it.

The sun deck catches the afternoon light. The cigar deck catches the evening. Both take walk-ins, seven days.

The Wine Room Reserve

Access, not storage.

For two years The Wine Room has been New Zealand's home of premium subterranean cellaring. The Reserve is what comes next: membership of a private wine platform, where allocation-only wines are secured on your behalf, the cellaring is included, and every bottle is yours to drink or hold.

Most fine wine collections live in a bonded warehouse in another city, behind a form and a fortnight's notice. Yours is beneath the restaurant. Tell the Concierge in the morning and find it decanted at your table that evening, with no corkage, because it is already yours.

Every cellar has an intention
i

To drink

Wines chosen for your table, held in perfect condition metres from where you will open them. No corkage, ever, on your own bottles.

ii

To cellar

Wines that want time. Laid down under professional care, tracked bottle by bottle, and resellable through the Reserve when you choose.

iii

To leave

A cellar built for someone else. Birth-year bottles, a wedding case, a collection your children inherit rather than a portfolio they liquidate.

Membership is arranged personally, one member at a time. It begins with an application. Founding memberships close 31 October.

The list

First to hear, first to book.

Winemaker dinners sell out to the list before they reach the website. One email a fortnight: what's on, what's just landed in the cellar, and the odd bottle we can't keep quiet about.

No noise, no daily deals. Unsubscribe whenever you like.
